Ontario pharmacists can assess and prescribe medications for a wide range of uncomplicated minor ailments, when clinically appropriate. If your condition is outside the pharmacist’s scope, we will help guide you to appropriate medical care.
Mild acne, dermatitis (eczema, allergic or contact), impetigo, insect bites, urticaria (hives), and diaper dermatitis.
Conjunctivitis (bacterial, allergic, or viral), aphthous ulcers (canker sores), candidal stomatitis (oral thrush), and cold sores (herpes labialis).
Allergic rhinitis, seasonal allergies, and other uncomplicated allergy-related symptoms.
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), hemorrhoids, and certain mild gastrointestinal symptoms.
Dysmenorrhea (menstrual pain), musculoskeletal sprains and strains, and other minor pain-related conditions.
Uncomplicated urinary tract infections, vulvovaginal candidiasis (yeast infections), pinworms and threadworms, and tick bites requiring post-exposure prophylaxis to prevent Lyme disease.
Nausea and vomiting of pregnancy, when symptoms are uncomplicated and appropriate for pharmacist assessment.
If symptoms are severe, worsening, persistent, or outside the pharmacist’s scope of practice, we will refer you to a physician or nurse practitioner.
